Ladies and Gentlemen,
Welcome to the Strengthening Families Conference. Today, we gather with a shared commitment to explore and enhance the fundamental unit of our society; the family. This conference is not merely a gathering of minds but a proactive step towards addressing the challenges faced by families in our rapidly evolving world.
Eventhough this conference is heavily subsidized by the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints we are honored and delighted to partner with The Ministry of Women, Family and Children.
Brief Introduction of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was formally established in 1830 in Fayette, New York, with the prophet Joseph Smith as the first President of the Church.
- The Church has grown from humble beginnings into a global community of 17 million believers united in following Jesus Christ.
- In Ivory Coast, we have close to 64,500 members located in diverse parts of the country, worshiping in 108 branches and 154 wards.
- Instead of full-time paid clergy, we all play a part in our local congregations through leadership roles, speaking assignments, and other volunteer opportunities.
- We are part of Jesus Christ’s restored Church, led by the Savior through His divinely inspired prophet.
This is the sixth edition of Strengthening Family Conference. The first conference happened in Ghana. The recent conference organised in 2023 took place in Abuja, Nigeria.
As a leading French-speaking country in West Africa for Church growth, leaders of the Church felt it was important for Cote d’Ivoire to host the conference this year.
It is therefore an honor and a privilege to host the conference in Cote d’Ivoire this year.
Purpose of the Conference
Why do we organize such a conference? The answer lies in the recognition that strong families are the bedrock of a healthy society. Families provide emotional support, nurture personal development, and shape the values of future generations. However, in today’s complex world, families encounter multifaceted challenges such as economic pressures, changing societal norms, the traditions of our fathers and technological advancements that can strain familial bonds. This conference serves as a platform to delve into these issues, share insights, and collaborate on effective strategies to empower families.
Benefits of the Conference
The benefits of strengthening families extend far beyond individual households. A cohesive and resilient family unit contributes positively to:
- Social Cohesion: Strong families foster a sense of belonging and community, which in turn strengthens social bonds and reduces social isolation.
- Child Development: Children from strong families tend to have better academic performance, improved social skills, and higher emotional intelligence, equipping them to succeed in diverse environments.
- Health and Well-being: Supportive family relationships correlate with improved mental and physical health outcomes for all members, reducing healthcare costs and societal burden.
- Economic Stability: Families that are cohesive and supportive are more likely to thrive economically, contributing to overall economic stability and prosperity.
- Inter-generational Transmission of Values: Strong families pass on traditions, values, and cultural heritage, preserving societal identity and promoting a sense of continuity.
By focusing on strengthening families, we not only invest in the present but also lay a robust foundation for the future. This conference aims to equip participants with practical tools, research-backed strategies, and inspirational stories that can be applied in diverse cultural contexts and individual circumstances.
In conclusion, the Strengthening Families Conference is a testament to our collective dedication to fostering healthier, happier, and more resilient families. As we embark on this journey of discovery and collaboration, let us keep in mind the transformative power of strong families in shaping a better world for generations to come. Together, we can build stronger families, stronger communities, and ultimately, a stronger society. Thank you for your presence and commitment to this vital cause.
